The Paradox of Patient Choice

Patient choice is a tenet of healthcare in the U.S. We have the inherent right to choose our providers and in theory, that is a good thing. The problem arises when patients are overwhelmed by hospital stays, lack of sleep and often coping with health challenges that will need further care. Choosing the right next provider from that vantage point, clouded by emotion and not knowing how to decipher complex quality metrics doesn't feel like a recipe for success.
